We're hot in the thick of Development Week, but we never stop planning, here at WriteForTheStage.
Development Week 12 has been a grand celebration of new writing.
The majority of the work has been from the writers from our WFTS Progressing group; as well as one piece from Advanced, and others from writers who just wanted to try their scripts out in front of an audience.
Some very lovely words about Development Week were written this week.
The standard of the work has been extremely high, and I'm really excited that the work from Progressing is getting to the stage where the next logical step is to get it produced.
Most of the pieces performed this week started through the WFTS Intro course. We follow a process of "mining the imagination". You don't need to start with an idea because we find one in the very first session. We mine the imagination for theme and characters, and build a world around them that helps create a place for those characters to inhabit.
We explore structure, the functions of dialogue, the total narrative, the dramatic question, turning points, the anatomy of character, script formatting and where to start. It's very comprehensive, and the next term is due to start very soon.
The course isn't just accessible to those in the North West - we stream each session over the web so that people from all over the world can join in - interactively joining in with discussions, sharing their work, and developing their ideas.
If you're interested in joining, the course is going to start on Tuesday, 19th March, 6.30-8.30pm.
