ACE success for WFTS Producing student

The WriteForTheStage Producers Course is designed to guide people new to theatre production through the highs and lows of a first-time production, or for a more experienced producer to learn the ways of funding applications and to avoid some of the pitfalls that inevitably happen along the way. We set up the course as a means to help the students from WFTS Intro and Advanced courses to take their work off the page and onto the next stage - into production.

During the course, we explore all of the elements of a production that you need to consider, including the team, casting, creating a budget, the tech, and marketing - all designed to guide a successful show from the beginning of the project, to the wrap-up and get-out of closing night.

Additionally, we work towards the completion of an Arts Council England application to help with the inevitable high costs of bringing a production to an audience. We had a run of successful applications in the first year, but then - as many of us know - the funding stream for theatre in Manchester seemed to temporarily diminish.

The last couple of years have been particularly tough for those of us trying to achieve funding for our theatre projects - but, thankfully, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Anne Wynne joined the WriteForTheStage courses back in 2016, where she wrote the first 10 pages of her script, A Fine Life. It was read at Studio Salford Development Week, where she received written feedback from the audience - which she took on-board when she went on to develop the script into a full one-act piece.

After completing the WFTS Advanced course, the longer piece was read at an evening arranged with our partners, Manchester ADP, where she received written feedback that helped Anne develop the script - readying it for production.

Determined to take the play into production, Anne joined the WFTS Producers course, which she has now completed. During

the course, she put together a really strong ACE bid - and we're absolutley thrilled to annouce that has been awarded her project funding!

So, in conjunction with Chorlton Scaffolding and WriteForTheStage Productions, Anne's debut play - A Fine Life - will be coming to the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in July.

We've now auditioned and cast the piece - keep an eye out for the press release announcing the cast. Coming soon!
