A Fine Life - rehearsal blog #3

We’ve been rehearsing for A Fine Life for a week and a half now, and we’ve got to the stage where we need to start running the piece to put all the work we’ve put into the individual scenes together so that it forms a cohesive whole. We’ve found so many touches to lift the comedy, while exploring the emotional truth from the perspective of character that I’m really looking forward to finally seeing everything come together.

So, by the end of today, we’ll (hopefully) be able to see how the piece works as a whole. There’s lots of high energy sequences, so it’s now all about balancing those with the quieter moments to give the audience some respite from the laughs and the mania of the comedy set-pieces. Although this piece is most definitely born from the world of comedy, there is still tons of emotional reality to be found - exploring character histories and making sense of their objectives.

It’s been a great fun rehearsal process so far, and I can’t wait to show this lovely piece to an audience.
