How to track down a superstar and a clone...
I've just launched my theatre company, Agrippa Productions. It was a big step and yet completely natural.
After completing the WriteForTheStage Producing course this summer I knew exactly what needed to be done to get my second play, Marina and the Clone, from the finished script to a full production run and it all started with a casting call.
As with any kind of communication information is key: what, where, when and who?
What is the play about? What are the characters like? What do you expect of your crew when you hire them? Where will the play be staged? Where are auditions and where should your actors be based to be considered? When will the play run? When are the auditions and rehearsals?
And arguably the most important question Who? Who are your characters? Who are you looking for?
You get this across well and it cuts down on so much sifting, filtering and ultimately time. That said, if you make your casting call robust enough everyone will want to be part of your vision. I had over 100 applications for four parts in the first 24 hours after the casting call was made.
So what am I saying? To get the best choice possible for your production, communicate the best information - and the prepare to get stuck in.
